As they get better at identifying two-syllable words, it is good to practice counting syllables in words that have three or more syllables. Tapping fingers and clapping are good ways of helping children identify syllables.

Extension Activity: Ask children to say words that have three or more syllables: camera, kindergarten, television, caterpillar, or hippopotamus. Remember to clap one time for each syllable.
