As children learn new words, it helps to teach them how these words are related to words or concepts they may already know. Talk with children about other animals they know that have fur. For example, lots of pets like cats, dogs, and hamsters have fur. Talk about how fur can be long, short, and all different colors. Children may also have fun finding pictures of furry animals in books.
