Remember while you are reading these documents that all of these people lived in the past. One of the ways to successfully read these is to not prejudge them. People are usually a product of their times.
The picture of the home above is beautiful. It makes me want to live there! It must have felt the same way to slaves who never would have the chance to live there.
I wonder if the plantation owners ever thought it was fair that slaves built these giant mansions for their owners without being paid for their work. Homes today cost a lot of money!
