Our solar system is made up of the sun, 8 planets, dwarf planets (or plutoids), moons, an asteroid belt, comets, meteors, and other objects. The sun is the center of our solar system; the planets, over 61 moons, the asteroids, comets, meteoroids and other rocks and gas all orbit the Sun.

Did you know that astronomers have found about 70 other solar systems in our sector of the Milky Way Galaxy, and are discovering new ones every year. Some scientists estimate that there may be many billions of solar systems in this galaxy alone. As it has only been a few years since the first solar system apart from ours was detected, this whole subject is still in its infancy. Whether the estimates are correct, and how similar these other solar systems are to ours, remains to be seen.
