The Tornado

Twister and Lighty are partners and get right to work. Twister fills the jar three fourths full, while Lighty adds food coloring. They twist the lid on and Twister shakes up the jar vigorously! He stops and gives the jar a twist. He sets the jar down on the table and they both gasped.

I did this once in my Science classroom. We used a soda bottle and spun it really fast. It was really cool! Have you ever done this in class before? If you did, what happened? If you didn't, what do you think happened to the water inside the jar?

Did you know some scientists actually create their own small tornadoes? The tornadoes they create aren't dangerous, but they help the scientist find out information about the tornadoes. They can find out how tornadoes form and why they form.

Vigorously means strong, energetic or powerfull. Vigorously is an adverb. An adverb describes how, when, where or why. In this sentence, vigorously describes how Twister shook the jar. Gasped is an emotion to show shock or suprise. In this sentence gasped is a verb. A verb shows action. The two boys showed a suprised look on their faces.
