In a nonfiction book you usually see a table of contents. It shows you the information that you will read about. Look at the table of contents. Is it in any kind of order? Let me know what you think.
To use the table of contents, look at the words on the left. When you see the part that you want to read about, move your eyes to the right. You will see a page number. That is the page where the information is. For example, if I want to read about Brooklyn, I will move my eyes across from the word Brooklyn and see that page 8 is about Brooklyn. Now you try it. What page would I go to if I want to learn more about the New York City government?
You usually find a table of contents in the beginning of a book. You usually find an Index at the back of a book. Do you want to know more about the difference. Go to Table of Contents vs. Index. You will find digital flash cards and a short quiz. Have fun!
