With the Sunny Side Down

When you picked me out

and yoked us together

it beguiled and excited my heart.

But you ignored the handle with care warning.

Without a shell,

your tricks turned me over and over--

easy for you,

playing with my fragile heart.

You can confuse and scramble me

carelessly yet carefully

to keep my tears

running--

You’re a bull.

And I’m on a beautiful china dish,

and all the king’s horses,

and all the king’s men

can’t put me back together again.
