Chapter 2

In the fall Dill leaves Maycomb and goes back to his home town. Scout prepares to go to school for the first time.  She is very excited to go to school.  Scout doesn’t have a good first day at school.  Her teacher, Miss Caroline Fischer makes Scout feel bad that she can read and is smart.   At lunch, a boy named Walter Cunningham, did not bring a lunch.  Miss Caroline offers him a quarter to buy lunch, telling him that he can pay her back tomorrow. Walter’s family is large and poor and Walter will never be able to pay the teacher back or bring a lunch to school. When Scout tries to tell Miss Caroline this, she becomes frustrated with Scout and hits her hand with a ruler.   Scout doesn’t like school.
