gender roles

In this time period, there were very strict expectations of what men and women should do. Men had authority over women. The king had authority over men. Men were expected to make decisions, own property, negotiate with others, and fight if necessary. In general, a woman's role was to support their husbands, bear children, run households, and teach their children about religion.
