figurative language

Figurative language uses "figures of speech" - a way of saying something other than the literal meaning of the words.

For example, "All the world's a stage".

glossary

A glossary is a list of terms in a particular domain of knowledge with the definitions for those terms.

En español:

Glosario: diccionario que sirve para explicar las palabras obscuras, extrajeras y antiguas de un libro: vocabulario explicativo de un dialecto o de una ciencia.

idioms

Idioms are phrases that mean more than their words put together. If you take them word for word, they might not make much sense! Idioms are a little like puzzles: try imagining a picture or a situation that the phrase suggests, and guess at the meaning from there.

For example, when someone says something was "a flash in the pan", they are referring to something that looked like it would be a big success, but did not work out.
