Adenine

A purine base that pairs with thymine in DNA.

A 3-D veiw of adenine.

Base Pairing

Base pairing in DNA was determined by Chargoff. It is also known as Chargoff's rule. Guanine base pairs with Adenine and Cytosine base pairs with Guanine.

Complementary

1. Acting as a complement.

2. (genetics) of the specific parirings of the bases in DNA and RNA.

Cytosine
A pyrimidine base that pairs with guanine.

Deoxyribose
The sugar that is part of DNA.

DNA

Deoxyribonucleic Acid

DNA is the genetic material that holds information about an organism.  It directs a cell's function and is passed from parent to offspring.

Guanine
A purine base that pairs with cytosine.

Nucleic Acid
long organic molecules that are made up of carbon, oxygen, hydrogen nitrogen and phosphorus.

Nucleotides

These are subunits of nucleic acids. They consist of:

1. 5-Carbon sugar

2. Phosphate group

3. Nirogenous base

A DNA nucleotide consists of

1. A sugar: deoxyribose

2. A phosphate group

3. Four nitrogenous bases
