Glossary

A filter is a paper that can remove large particles (pieces of something) from a liquid.

Sentence:  I will use a filter to get this piece of lettuce out of my water. 

If you dropped a penny into your water, could you use a filter to get it out?  (Yes)

If something is hurtful, it causes injury or emotional pain.

Sentence: Friends should not say hurtful things to each other.  

I'm not your friend anymore.  Is this sentence hurtful? (Yes)

To remove something means to take it away.

Sentence: A truck can remove junk from a house.

How can you remove a splinter? (Use tweezers)

Respectful means you care about someone's feelings and well-being.

Sentence: One way to be respectful in class is to raise your hand before you speak.

What is another way to be respectful in the classroom?  (Take turns, use kind words, try your hardest)

When something is social it involves other people.  

Sentence: Jane has a very active social life; She is always around other people!

Wolves are social animals because they live with other wolves.  Can you think of other social animals or insects?  (monkeys, bees, ants, horses)

Unkind means not kind.

Sentence: It is unkind to laugh at someone.

Is it unkind to laugh if someone falls at recess?  (Yes)
