commute

Verb

Travel some distance between one's home and place of work or school on a regular basis.

Diagonal

A straight line inside a shape that goes from one corner to another (but not an edge).

Note that it touches from vertex to vertex

Hypotenuse

The side opposite the right angle in a right-angled triangle.

The hypotenuse is the longest side of a right triangle.

Perfect Square

The perfect squares are the squares of the whole numbers:

Pythagorean Theorem

In a right angled triangle:
the square of the hypotenuse is equal to
the sum of the squares of the other two sides.

Pythagorean Triple

A "Pythagorean Triple" is a set of positive integers, a, b and c that fits the rule:

a² + b² = c²

right triangle

A right triangle is (you guessed it), a triangle which has a right angle (90°) in it.

The little square in the corner tells us that it is a right angled triangle
(I also wrote 90°, but you don't need to!)

square (a number)

To square a number, just multiply it by itself ...

3x3 = 9 squares

Theorem

A rule in algebra or other branches of mathematics expressed by symbols or formulas.

Triple

1. Three of something

2. To multipy a number by 3

Variable

A symbol for a number we don't know yet. It is usually a letter like x or y.
