Something barbaric is cruel or very brutal.

She was an American activist on behalf of the mentally insane, and through her hard work of arguing with the United States Congress to make changes for the better of these people, she created some of the first American Mental Asylums. 

Something that is ludicrous is foolish, unreasonable, or out of place as to be amusing; ridiculous.
