What is a Machine?

A machine   is something that helps us do work .  Work means pushing or pulling in order to move an object.  A machine can be just one piece or it can have many different parts.

Without machines we would not be able to move heavy objects.  There are many different kinds of machines.

There are a few different types of machines.  A few examples of machines would be the lever, the pulley, the inclined plane, the wheel and axle, and the pulley. This is a picture of a wheel and axle.   The wheel and axle is a special kind of lever that moves or turns objects. One example of a wheel and axle would be a screw driver.
