Educaplay Logo

Educaplay is an online tool that allows teachers to create online activities and quizzes such as: Interactive maps, matching games, slide shows, riddles, video quizzes, online quizzes, etc. Once you create your games, you can export them to an LMS. It is free to use, however to play games without ads, you must pay for the Premium edition.

Web Address: http://en.educaplay.com/

This tool is made for education and with it you can make online games that replace traditional paper worksheets. Since they are web based, students can access the activities at home for homework or for more practice.

For students that struggle with reading comprehension, the video quizzes offers an alternative means to presenting information. The video quiz allows you to upload a video of your choice and place questions within the video to check for understanding.

Within the terms of use, the users of the activities and quizzes may be of any age. As for the age of the individual creating the activities, the licence agreement does not provide any restrictions. The licence agreement does state that games created by the user may be downloaded. The downloaded version is not to be altered in any way and the Educaplay information on the game cannot be removed.

TEDEd Logo

TED-Ed

TED-Ed gives teachers access to animated/video lessons which they can take and personalize with questions and discussion boards. If you have a great idea for a lesson plan, you can also submit a script, and if accepted, the TED-Ed team will find an animator to work on the visuals.

Website Address: http://ed.ted.com/

This tool is geared towards education. You can find pre-made lessons and personalize it to your classroom needs. It is simply another way to present information other than the regular lecture style presentation. On the website it states most of the videos are geared towards ages 13 -21.

This is a great way to remove barriers as it presents the information through a video format which students can watch more than once. If students need to review the information, the video can be accessed anywhere with an internet connection. For students that learn best with visuals, TED-Ed incorporates wonderfully illustrated videos. For students that have difficulties hearing, they may watch the videos with headphones in.

The Terms of Use state that you must be at least 13 years ago to create a TED.com account, however people of all ages can enjoy the videos and the websites.

Storyboard That

Storyboard That is a comic book style storyboard creator. Students and/or teachers can use the program to create comic strips.

Website Address:  http://www.storyboardthat.com/

Storyboard That can be used as an alternative to writing a traditional story within Language Arts, bring history to life, and show dialogues in second language classes.

Storyboard That can remove barriers in a number of way. For example, Storyboard That has lesson plans for vocabulary, where you define a term in text and you show the meaning via pictures to aid in understanding. You could also use Storyboard That for the students to show their understanding of a reading done in class; to do that, you can ask the students to summarize the timeline via comic strip. For those students that are struggling with writing, they can use the images to help back up their writing and show comprehension.

With respect to the terms of use, the account must be registered by an individual who is the age of majority. With the educational subscription, either the teacher or the school registers the account, and students have their own profiles under that registration. Though the educational subscription provides a private classroom and does not require the students personal email address, the terms of use state that no personal information, including name, may be used in the program for students under the age of 13.
