Grade 10 English Web 2.0 tools 



Hello! My name is Eric Jensen and I am currently a University of Alberta student in the faculty of education. I am exploring web 2.0 tools to use in the instruction of English Language Arts for grade 10 students.

Twitter:  a social media application. It allows for individuals to connect from all over the world simply by signing up for a profile. You an connect with like minded individuals discussing a topic of your choosing simply by using a hastag. 

Education uses: It is possible to connect to experts, or brilliant minds around the world simply by using a search bar. Tweets also can incorporate links to important news, or educational items. 

Removal of Barriers: For those who are shy, who have trouble finding resources for research, or those who desire to go beyond the classroom instruction on a subject, Twitter is very versatile. Students can also use a multitude of interaction methods. Twitter uses pictures, videos, and text.  

Age Restriction: The age restriction for Twitter is 13

Prezi: a platform which allows for the creation and viewing of presentations. 

Education Uses: As a teacher, Prezi can be used to supplement a lecture. As a student, Prezi can be used to demonstrate comprehension of a lesson through a presentation.

Reducing Barriers: Prezi can allow students to learn in a variety of ways. They can edit their comprehension presentation to demonstrate their strengths as a student. As a teacher, you can put in a number of different techniques including video, text, or picture. 

Age restriction: Cannot use under the age of 13, and under the age of 18 requires parental consent.

Skype: Skype is a conferencing tool. You can use either voice, video, or text, or a combination of any of these. 

Education Use: Skype can be used a number of ways in education. You can connect with other classrooms, experts, or instructors. Students who want to collaborate on work later can do so through the use of Skype. 

Reducing Barriers: For teachers who lack expertise in an area, experts can be contacted. For stuents who are shy, they can use the text option, for students who are visual learners, they can utilize the webcam, and finally for auditory learners, the microphone and speakers can be used. 

Age Requirement: There isn't an age limit on their website.
