An Exploration of Edmodo, GeoGebra, and Prezi

Edmodo is a Learning Managment System (LMS) designed to "bridge the gap between how students live their lives and how they learn" (https://www.edmodo.com/about). Specifically, this LMS markets itself as a social learning site; a model that resembles social networking sites such as Facebook. This application has features such as online classrooms, homework, progress manegement, and content delivery, that offer a wide range of flexible classroom options from K-12. This Wed 2.0 tool has potential to remove learning barriers by providing students with increased flexibility in delivery and assessment options in the learning process. The terms of use specify that users must be 18 years of age, or have parental permission, before providing personal information to the site.


GeoGebra

GeoGebra is an online application that provides a platform for combining several facets of mathematics. Specifically, GeoGebra provides students with a different way of experiencing geometry and algebra, with interactive and visual software. This Web 2.0 has great potential for breaking down barriers in the teaching of mathematics by providing increased access to visual and hands-on learners. This application would be highly useful from K-12. The Terms of Service do not specify any age restrictions for the use of this tool.


Prezi

Prezi is a web 2.0 application that allows for increased creativity in the construction of presentations. Teachers and students have the ability to use a wide variety of media types. This allows for the creation of presentations that are more engaging. This application could break down barriers in the classroom with regards to students showing what they know. With the increased presentation options available, students have access to more tools to show off what they know. This application seems more suitable for students in secondary grades to use. However, teachers can make there teaching more engaging for all grade with the use of this application. The Terms of Use for Prezi specify that users must be 13 years of age or older. Further, users between the ages must have parental permission to use Prezi (https://prezi.com/terms-of-use/#toc4).
