Web 2.0 Resources for Creation of UDL's 


In the modern age of the internet the resources available to teaching professionals in becoming increasingly vast.  Web 2.0 tools refer to second generation tools that have become possible in more recent years due to technological advancements.  This eBook will exhibit a few examples of such tools and explain their uses in creation of UDL evnironments.



Here at the carbon footprint calculator (http://www.carbonfootprint.com/calculator.aspx) participants are able to calculate a rough estimate of their personal carbon footprint based on gernal lifestyle choices. 

This tool can be used to easily demonstrate concepts in environmental science in regards to polution and global warming. This tool can redeuce barriers to learning as it allows a hands on approach to this topic rather than simply putting forward the concept as writting or lectures.  Students that are more tactile or group orientent may benefit from such hands of activites.

Mahara is an online resource that allows users to create eportfolios, partiipate in open source resource sharing, attend events with other individuals using the programs, and many more functions dedicated to professional/learning development. Found at https://mahara.org/

This tool can be used to allow student sot create online learning portfolios using a variety of media modalities.  The students could keep track of learning that took place, but more importantly it allows for easy reflection of past learning throughout the year and previous years.  This helps in the creation of UDL environments as the ease with which multimeda sources can be implemented for various types of learners is very open ended.  

This applicaiton can be used by all ages



Masher (found here http://www.masher.com/) is a tool that allows the "mash-up" of video content from either the website data base or personal content.

This could be used to allow students to compile rsources in activites such as tutorials by combining personal videos with those of professionals in the field.

This could help eleiminate barriers for students who do not excel in areas invoving purely text style documents.  This allows for visual expression and invites the creativity of students who prefer less structured assignments.

This can be used by all ages, but users under 13 years of age require parental consent.
