The Unseen Stories of the World

Humans tend to have a pattern that they only believe in what they can see.  Often, we need proof to be able to determine if something is real.  In a way, "seeing is believing," whether it's with Santa Claus, scientific theories, or even people experiencing poverty. If we do not see it, we tend to act as if it does not exist.

First, let me tell you a story of a young reporter named Eman Mohammed, who lived in Gaza.  Women in this country were not allowed to do a man's job, so when Eman wanted to be a reporter, her colleagues would often make fun of her.  One time, her collgeagues left her in an open air strike zone because they thought it was funny.  The only reason they were putting her in danger was because of her gender.

We see another example of hidden stories when we take a look at poverty.  Poverty is the longest running effort of human compassion. In order to end it, we must first end violence and slavery.

Griselda was raped in the middle of the day when she was on her way to church with her family.  Venus was woman with three kids who was fine until her husband died and her brother-in-law kicked her and her family out of the house.  Her youngest son died of malnutrition.

We see poverty as a cause instead of a symptom.  Those who do not see it first-hand would never realize that one of the pivotal causes of poverty is abuse.

Science also tells us many stories that we would not otherwise be able to see from our experiences.

Time-lapse cameras speed up slow-moving plants and weather patterns so that we are able to understand the way they work.

High-speed cameras allow us to see things that are normally too fast.  With this, we can understand how a dragonfly flies.

We can also use high-powered microscopes to see things that are too small. Using this technology, we will be able to create nano devices to help prevent disease.

When we study bioluminescence and marine life, we are able to better understand animal behavior and the creatures that inhabit 99% of the livable space on earth.

Sometimes we must step out of our world to understand those around us.  If we listen to these stories, there is no limit to the things we can accomplish.
