What is UDL?

  • UDL stands for universal design for learning (Bookbuilder.cast.org, 2015).
  • UDL is a flexible approach to curriculum design and offers all learners full and equal opportunities to learn (Bookbuilder.cast.org, 2015).
  • Everyone learns differently and UDL provides opportunities for all types of learners to learn (Bookbuilder.cast.org, 2015).
  • Can be used to teach kindergarten to grade 12 students , and post secondary students (Bookbuilder.cast.org, 2015).
  • Allows learner to learn at own pace, and  at whatever time is best for the learner (Bookbuilder.cast.org, 2015)

UDL Provides:

  • UDL Provides multiple means of representation such as perception, language and symbols, and comprehension (Bookbuilder.cast.org, 2015).
  • Provides multiple means of action and expression  such as physical action. Expressive skills and fluency(Bookbuilder.cast.org, 2015)
  • Provide multiple means of engagement such as recruiting interest, sustaining effort and persistence and self regulation (Bookbuilder.cast.org, 2015).

One important concept that I have learned from my EDEL 305 class, is that for learning to take place students need to be engaged. If the students are having fun while learning, they will learn what is being taught. Having students engaged in their own learning, can help the students learn to make connections to concepts.

The audio feature is great tool becasue teachers are able to record themselves relaying an announcment for the class or reading a book to the class. This tool allows the students who are auditory learners to learn what is being taught. This is a great tool for  children in division one in elementry  school becasue the teacher can record him/her self reading the book and the students can follow along by listening to the story and looking at the book.

UDL is great tool for students to respond  questions or do assignments. Students can take as long as they need to complete the response, and students all can parcipatate in the actitvity.

The coaches feature is great tool to be used to identify important information, or to read the instructions of what is being asked. This feature is great for students who have trouble reading, or who are slow at reading be able to understand. This feature is something I would use in all my pages because this feature provides another opportunity to learn.
