In 1933, America was in a Great Depression . People were losing their jobs and did not have money to take care of their families. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, or FDR , was the President. He wanted to help the country come out of the depression.

FDR told the American people he would give them a "New Deal." The New Deal promised Americans:
1) Relief - help for people who didn't have jobs
2) Recovery - help to farms and businesses that lost money
3) Reform - changes to economic policies

Some people and courts did not like the New Deal. However, FDR was re-elected and became president again. The American economy started to improve.
