Google Docs

Google Docs is a document tool that allows for one to craete a document that automatically saves (providing their is an internet connection), and allows for the creator to invite others onto the document to collaborate on the document that tehy have created.

Educational Use

Can be used effectively from grade seven (maybe as young as four) and up to collaborate with other students, or create documents individually, on projects and assignments paperlessly.

UDL in the Classroom

This can allow for students who have limited times for meeting with groups to still participate in group projects. It allows for both in and out of school collaboration on assignments, though it also has application for individual work; it is not necessary for a student to invite others into their document, and it can be a good tool for not losing work as it auto saves when you take a break in typing.

Terms of Use

You must have a gmail account to use Google Docs.

WordPress

WordPress is a website creation or blogging tool that allows for the user to personalize their own website, put up content, share ideas, etc.

Educational Use

In a grade seven to twelve context this would be a very effective way for students to less formally share their ideas with one another about content. You can have a classroom list of students blogs and students can comment and interact with other students posts. It could also be used as a portfolio for students to upload and share work and concepts they are proud of.

UDL in the Classroom

This is a creative tool for students who don't particularly like to speak up in class discussions to interact with their peers in a less public speaking-esque fashion. This website could also be carried throughout their school careers, past formal schooling even, as a place for them to build and share all that they have learned.

Terms of Use

Some of the features are locked for paid accounts, you are limited to choosing a theme for the base of your website/blog, and you have to make an account in order to make a website/blog.

Prezi

Prezi is a presentation tool that is more interactive than powerpoint. Students can create visual stories, uploading videos, pictures, and creating text to explain, that branch out in a tree like fashion, or create a circular model for a topic, and sort of presentation style that they can imagine for their topic they can create on this free to use website.

Educational Use

Prezi can be used, I believe, most affectively from grades seven through twelve. It allows for students to have a more flexible platform for presentations than traditional powerpoint or poster methods, which may allow students that have a hard time focusing be more engaged with a presentation.

UDL in the Classroom

Students can create presentations in anyway that they feel is best for their learning, and it allows them to use any sort of media they see fit in making their presentation.

Terms of Use

To create a Prezi you must make an account, and while free accounts are available they are public accounts.
