Web 2.0 Tools in the Classroom


A collection of three Web 2.0 Tools to be used effectively within the classroom



Slidely 

Slidely is a Web 2.0 tool that can be found at http://slide.ly and can be used by an indivudal to share personal photos and videos on the web with the public.

Within the classroom, this tool can be used in many creative ways. Students could go through a scavenger hunt as a project and share photos with their group as they progress through the assigment in order to collect clues. Students could also share images and information with people who are a great distance away, this could be advantageous for learning about other cultures and people around the globe. The possibilites are endless with this Web 2.0 tool. 

 Slidely is restricted to users above the age of 18. It the user is younger than 18 then they are requited to get permission from a parent/guardian. 


Vocaroo

 

Vocaroo is a Web 2.0 tool that can be used to record audio. Vocaroo can be found at http://vocaroo.com The audio that is recorded on vocaroo can be saved and shared with others. In the parameters of the classroom, this tool can be used for multiple purposes, for example: learning new words both in other languages as well as in english, helping students sound out words for spelling, and as in aid for a project (to be played overtop of a powerpoint presentation-for example). The possibilities are endless with this tool as it is easy to use and is clean and straightforward, so it can be used by both younger ages as well as older groups. 

In order to use varcoo, there is no sign-up process. Therefore, there are no restrictions to who can use it. 


TED-Ed

TED-Ed is a web 2.0 tool and can be found at ed.ted.com/lessons This tool is a collection of educational video recordings of lectures that cover various topics. Within an educational setting, this tool can be used to expand upon a certain subject that is being discussed/studied, and incooperates a good break in the type of instruction that is given. Students can also use this tool to gather research information for projects or to expand a topic that they are curious about. 

 

In order to access TED-Ed, users must be 13 years or older and provide basic iformation.
