The characters in a fable are animals that possess humanlike characteristics. They speak, act and possess   humanlike personalities.

behavior or 

attitude of the characters in the story creates  a  problem or a dilemma. This usually leads to the conflict of the story .

Moral

The 

outcome  of 

fables lead

to a particular lesson or a moral to be learned. The morals impart  knowledge and advice based upon the characters' experiences in the story .

setting

The setting of a fable is usually outside. 

Because the characters of the story are animals, the setting of the story occurs in an environmental  setting.
