The King of Cool
A story about Willis Haviland Carrier and the air-conditioner
Willis Haviland Carrier helped make the air-conditioner. He was given the nickname, "The King of Cool" since he had done a lot of work for the air-conditioner. He started a company to make air-conditioning systems.
Carrier also studied people. He found out that people need both the temperature and humidity to be controlled. If it is not controlled then they will not feel comfortable. A lot of people found that the air-conditioner was cool and stopped rooms from being so hot.
At first, the air-conditioner was only used in factories. The temperature needed to be controlled in order to protect the items in the warehouses. Soon, theaters began to install air-conditioners. This was to have more business in the hot weather and keep the theater cool.
Today we can find the air-conditioner in a lot of different places. Most of our homes have them in order to keep us cool in the summer. A lot of cars also have them so that the car does not get too hot. Even our school has an air-conditioner so that when the weather gets warm we can still get our work done.
