Resources and Recycling

By: Jessica Riben

In this small book, we are going to talk about reusing and recycling matericals that we use in our everyday lives.

It is important to know that is takes more energy to make new steel cans and glass bottles than to recycle them and use them again.

When you conserve resources, you are reusing things. Some examples include reusing a cloth napkin or passing down toys and clothing to younger siblings.

Another way to concerve resources is to recycle. We recycle many different things including:

a.  Paper

b.  Plastic

c.  Glass

d.  Metal

e.  Textiles

f.  Batteries

g.  Electronic Equipment

h.  Food

The second part of the recycling process is shipping the glass to a glass company.

  • Pieces of glass are put into boxes. The boxes are shipped to a glass reprocessing  company.

The third step in the process of recycling is to process the crushed  glass.

  • Glass bits are crushed into grain-sized particles . They are cleaned and dried.

The forth and final step is making the new product, in this case, new glass bottles.

  • The bits are melted and reformed into glass bottles or jars.
