The Three Little Gingerbread Boys

by Christine Marino and Annie Taylor

Once upon a time in a far away land, there was a village.  This was no ordinary village.  This village was made up of gingerbread people of all different shapes, sizes, and colors.  Some were short, skinny, and decorated with jelly beans.  Others were tall and plump and decorated with chocolate chips or M&M’s.

All of the gingerbread people had happy lives until one day a big, bad girl came along and began to threaten the village.  You see, humans LOVE sweets and especially gingerbread, and so this girl was very dangerous.

One family in particular, decided to leave town to build their own houses so that the big bad girl could not get them.  This family was made up of three stubborn gingerbread brothers.  Each boy wanted to make their house out of different material and no one could agree.

After several hours of arguing, the first gingerbread brother suggested that each of the gingerbread brothers build their own house.  The three gingerbread brothers took a poll
and decided to go their separate ways.

The first and youngest gingerbread brother decided to borrow some marshmallows from his friends to build a house.

The second and middle gingerbread brother went to the grocery store and bought taffy
to build his house.

And the third and oldest gingerbread brother drove all the way over to the next village to buy rock candy
to build his house.

The first and youngest gingerbread brother finished his fluffy marshmallow mansion first.  He was convinced the big bad girl would never eat through his house to eat him.  This gingerbread brother relaxed in his house and waited to hear from his brothers.

The second and middle gingerbread brother was so proud of his taffy townhouse
when he was finished that he decided to play a round of golf with his gingerbread friends.

The third and oldest gingerbread brother worked on his rock candy
ranch for several days.  He worked through good and bad weather and never gave up because he knew his house would keep the big bad girl away.

One night, the big bad girl came along and saw the youngest gingerbread brother’s marshmallow mansion.

She said, “Let me in, little gingerbread boy, or I’ll eat and I’ll eat till I consume your whole mansion.”

“Not by the jelly beans on my big brown belly,” said the gingerbread boy.

But of course the big bad girl did eat her way through the marshmallow mansion.  Just as she reached the inside, the youngest brother ran all the way to the middle brother’s townhouse.

“Help!  Help!  The big bad girl is coming!”  said the youngest gingerbread boy.

And sure enough, a few hours later the big bad girl came upon the second gingerbread boy’s taffy townhouse.

She said, “Let me in, little gingerbread brothers or I’ll eat and I’ll eat till I consume your whole townhouse.”

“Not by the chocolate chips on my big brown belly,” said the gingerbread boy.

But of course the big bad girl did eat her way through the taffy townhouse.  Just as she reached the inside, the two brothers ran all the way to their oldest brother’s rock candy ranch.

“Help!  Help!  The big bad girl is coming!”  said the two younger gingerbread brothers. And sure enough, a few hours later the big bad girl came upon the oldest gingerbread boy’s rock candy ranch.

She said, “Let me in, little gingerbread brothers, or I’ll eat and I’ll eat till I consume your whole house.”

“Not by the M&M’s on my big brown belly,” said the gingerbread boy.

The big bad girl began to eat and eat but she could not bite through the rock candy.  But the big bad girl was very smart, so she climbed up to the top of the rock candy ranch where there was a chimney.  She jumped down the chimney to scare the gingerbread brothers but they had already put a cage below the chimney.  The big bad girl fell into the cage and was trapped.  The three gingerbread brothers cheered and thanked their oldest brother who had taken the time to build a house that was strong and safe for them to live in happily ever after.
