What is the Classical Era?

There are many different types of movies. Such as: Drama, Romance, Horror, Action, Sci-fi, Fantasy, and many more. But we are focusing on the history. In this book, we go through three major time periods or points in Movie History. The first period is the “Classical Era” of movies. The Classical Era began with the end of silent films. During this period, most movies were Westerns, comedies, and musicals. One of the most notable of these is the 1939 film, The Wizard of Oz.

What is the Post-Classical Era?

Throughout the 60s, 70s, and 80s we have the “Post- Classical Era” of movies. This era has many new directors using new methods of storytelling. Some of these very famous directors are Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, and George Lucas. In this era people were getting tired of the same stories, so newer and unheard of stories were being told. It was also the era where twist endings were used a lot in movies. The famous Sci-fi movie series Star Wars came from this era.

What is the Modern Era?

The modern era of film comes in with big name actors and huge movie blockbusters . This is he period of film that we are living in today. We see many movie now that use many digital effects. A lot of the old comes back in this era as well, such as remakes and sequels to classic movies. One of the recent examples of this is Blade Runner: 2049 which is the sequel to the original Blade Runner which came out in 1982.

Conclusion

There are many different types and eras of movies. Movies have changed and evolved over time, between what people like and what people want to make. Lastly, history repeats itself. The movies that are being made today look to the past, which inspires our future.
