Graphic Organizers

Graphic Organizers are a strategy that will help  you organize and process new information. They can be used as an outline to an essay or a way to organize slides and important information for a power point or presentation.

There are many different versions of graphic organizers. You can compare and contrast information. You can name main ideas and supporting details of assigned readings. Graphic organizers even help you connect the dots between new information and things you've already learned!

The cause and effect graphic organizer can be used to show events (cause) and the effects of those events. For example in our Civil War unit the South seceding from the Union could be a cause. The effect of that event would be the reconstruction of the South.

The Web graphic organizer is one that is used to help identify key issues about any concept. Look at the above web. The web is about Dogs, which is written in the middle bubble. The surrounding bubbles each contain information about dogs; they need exercise, they have four legs, they like walks.

These webs are good for pinpointing the supporting details of a concept.

Graphic Organizers can be used in any subject area. All you need is a concept to learn about and details that support that concept.

There are 100's of different graphic organizers available. The trick is to find a few different versions that work for you. That help you keep information organized in a way that you are able to use.
