Objective:

After viewing and hearing this social story about transitioning to middle school, Luke will be able to learn new routines, make great friends, and have a great year!

Big changes are coming! Luke is getting ready to start middle school.

When the bus arrives to pick him up, Luke feels nervous about going to a new school.

Luke gets on the bus and sees his neighbor, Oliver. He feels better about going to a new school after learning that Oliver will be in some of the same classes with him.

When Luke walks into his first classroom, he remembers what his mom and dad told him the night before: the classrooms will look a lot different from the ones you've had before, but don't let that scare you, that's one of the cool things about going to middle school, you get to experience more than one "big kid" classroom!

Luke loves learning from his math teacher, Ms. Honey. She makes the transition to middle school so much fun!

When it is time for lunch, Luke finds Oliver and other classmates to eat with. Luke and his new friends have fun laughing and joking together.

Before going to his next class, Luke went to his locker. Over the summer, Luke practiced his locker combination and set up a schedule of when he had to go there.

His mom even wrote the schedule inside the locker on a dry erase board and in his notebook for him! Being prepared helped Luke feel confident about this new routine.

When the school day is over, Luke will get on the bus to go home. He is excited to talk about the great day he had at school with Oliver.

Luke is excited to go home and tell his parents about his first day in middle school. He learned new routines, met new friends, and is ready for a great year. He can't wait to go back tomorrow!
