Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone is a National Park that is located in 3 states. It covers land in Wyoming, Montanta and Idaho. The park was created in 1872.

Soon after, many hunters began to hunt the wolves that were living in the park. The numbers of wolves became smaller and smaller until they were almost extinct  in 1950.

Life Without Wolves

Without the wolves, the entire environment in Yellowstone was thrown off. Since there was no wolves, large animals such as bears were left without food. Without the wolves hunting deer, the deer population grew so large that they began eating berries and other plants.

This started a chain that changed the cycle most animals knew and needed to live. Suddently, their food wasn't there and they had to find other ways to eat.

Bring the Wolves Back !

Scientist learned that without the wolves to balance the environment , Yellowstone had changed and they needed to fix it - and quick! Soon after wolves became a protected animal which meant they could no longer be hunted.

Wolves were watched and brought back to Yellowstone. By 2012 the number of wolves had grown and the wolves were stronger than ever. Today, wolves still live in Yellowstone National Park and keep the environment  in balance

Conclusion

Wolves might seem scary at first, which is why they were hunted before. People were scared of wolves.

We need wolves in Yellowstone and all over becuase they help to balance out the environment.
