Willis Haviland Carrier

Willis Haviland Carrier has been given the nickname, "the king of cool." Carrier created basic equations that modern- day scientists use to understand how temperature and humidity are related.

Carrier recognized that people are more comfortable when both temperature and humidity are controlled. Carrier started a company that manufactured  and sold air- conditioning systems to help control temperature and humidity.

Air conditioners remove heat from warm air and blow out cool air. Air conditioners do not create cold air.

Factories started using air- conditioning to control the humidity and temperature of the building. Over time, theaters started using air- conditioners to attract more customers during hot weather. Air- conditioners today are used in many places: cars, homes, and even schools.
