La Isla del Viento Fuerte

I am the wind. I may be invisible, but I am still important. The people on the island of Fuerteventura think so too. The name Fuerteventura even means “strong wind.”
Soy el viento. Puede que sea invisible, pero sigo estando presente y la gente en la isla de Fuerteventura también lo piensa así. Incluso la isla lleva mi nombre porque Fuerteventura significa "viento fuerte."
I am the powerful wind. My force shaped the island. My gusts of air smoothed the mountains, making them look like they are covered in soft and fluffy blankets.
Yo soy el viento poderoso. Mi esfuerzo moldeó la isla. Mis ráfagas de aire suavizan las montañas, haciéndolas aparecer como si estuvieran cubiertas de mantas lisas y acolchadas.
I am the astonishing wind. I am responsible for the island’s famous “calima ”. This haze is like a cloud of sand and dust. I paint light brown brush strokes over the skyline. I blow the sand over the ocean, from the Sahara Desert in North Africa.
Yo soy el viento sorprendente. Soy responsable de la famosa "calima" de la isla. Esta neblina densa es como una nube de arena y polvo. Pinto pinceladas de color marrón claro sobre el horizonte. Soplo la arena sobre el océano, desde el desierto del Sahara en el norte de África.
I am the hardworking wind. I also push the giant arms of graceful windmills. With my help, the islanders used these windmills to grind grain and prepare gofio. “What’s gofio?” you might ask. Gofio is the milled corn and other grains that kept the people of Fuerteventura strong during times of food shortages. This Canarian flour is still a popular product used in soups, desserts, sauces, and more.
Yo soy el viento trabajador. También empujo los brazos gigantes de los elegantes molinos de viento. Con mi ayuda, los isleños los usaban para moler el grano y preparar el gofio. ¿Y tú qué dirías qué es el gofio? Gofio es el maíz molido y otros granos que mantuvieron fuerte a la gente de Fuerteventura durante los tiempos de escasez de alimentos. Esta harina canaria sigue siendo un producto popular utilizado en sopas, postres, salsas, etc.
I am the fresh wind. I use my power to generate electricity at the windfarm. The wind turbines provide a cleaner source of energy that reduces pollution and protects the natural beauty of the island.
Yo soy el viento fresco. Utilizo mi poder para generar electricidad en el parque eólico. Las turbinas eólicas proporcionan una fuente de energía limpia que ayuda a reducir la contaminación y a proteger la belleza natural de la isla.
I am the incredible wind. I create the perfect conditions for water sports, making me a surfer’s best friend. People come from all over the world to participate in the island’s international windsurfing and kitesurfing competitions. I fill their sails as they glide along the water with graceful tricks and turns.
Yo soy el viento increíble. Creo las condiciones perfectas para deportes acuáticos, haciéndome el mejor amigo de los surfistas. La gente viene a Fuerteventura de todas partes del mundo para participar en sus competiciones internacionales de windsurf y kitesurf. Lleno sus velas mientras se deslizan a lo largo del agua con trucos y giros airosos.
I am the useful wind. Your laundry would never dry without my help. My gusts whip the brightly colored fabric. The scent of fresh cotton floats to sniffing noses.
Yo soy el viento útil. Tu colada nunca secaría sin mi ayuda. Mis ráfagas azotan los colores brillantes de las telas. El aroma del algodón fresco flota en la nariz que olfatea.
I am the lively wind. Hold onto your hats when I’m around! Some people complain about hair blowing in their faces, but it makes for some stylish looks. Sun bathers build lava rock shelters to shield from my blast.
Yo soy el viento ligero. ¡Agarrad vuestros gorros cuando estoy cerca! Algunas personas se quejan de que cuando soplo el pelo cae sobre su cara, pero hace que algunos peinados sean más elegantes. Sobre la arena los que van a tomar el sol construyen refugios de roca de lava para protegerse de mi aire.
I am the playful wind. Once a year, the islanders throw a giant birthday party just for me; the marvelous and wonderful Kite Festival. Colorful shapes fly high in the sky. The kites dance and twirl in celebration. Next time you fly a kite, chase after your hat, hang your laundry, or do anything else that I am a part of, I hope you will think of me. I invite you to come and fly with me on the island of strong wind.
Yo soy el viento juguetón. Una vez al año los isleños celebran una fiesta de cumpleaños gigante solo para mí; el maravilloso y estupendo festival de las cometas. Las formas coloridas vuelan alto en el cielo. Las cometas bailan y giran en una gran celebración. La próxima vez que vueles una cometa, corras detrás de tu sombrero, tiendas la colada o hagas cualquier otra cosa de la que yo sea parte, espero que pienses en mí. Yo te invito, ven a volar conmigo en la isla del viento fuerte.
