The Nature of Science

By Sarah Klukaszewski

What is the nature of science all about?

Science is all around us. In this book, we will discover why it is important to ask questions and make observations about what we see surrounding us everyday. We will learn about the scientific method , hyptotheses , and much more!

The first thing that makes someone a scientist is by asking questions. Technically, everyone is a scientist. We have all wondered about the world around us. For example, farmers are scientists because they are always wondering how they can grow their crops better. This simple question, "How can my crops grow better?", starts the process of science!

The Scientific Method is a way in which we can take our questions and turn them into answers. The Scientific Method is a way for us to test what we think will happen in certain situations. It is outlined in the picture below!

If you answered the question on the last page, you might've answered hypothesis! And you would be correct--a hypothesis is the third step of the scientific method. A hypothesis is created after a scientist has asked a question and researched that question. He/She will then make a prediction about what will happen or what the answer to his/her question is. A hypothesis can be right or wrong--it doesn't matter! It just must be able to be tested.
