The Word War

Adjectives vs Adverbs

Written by Mrs. Forman and Ms. Williams

Long ago there were two best friends, well, they WERE best friends...

Adverb and Adjective always have fun together until one day when Adverb said, "I am much better at describing things than you."

Adjective said, "No, I think you are wrong!"

The friends continued to fight by naming off all of the describing words they could think of!

Adverb listed, "Quickly, happily, always, very, suprisingly" and he continued to yell out words.

Adjective started, "Purple, huge, amazing, handsome, beautiful!"

After a while, Adverb and Adjective realized that they were using two different kinds of describing words.

Adverb was describing those action words called verbs!

And Adjective was using only words that described nouns!

Adverb agreed! He felt silly for arguing with his friend! "We shouldn't agrue if we are doing different things, we can both be the best!"

The friends decided to...

...quickly eat....

... a tasty cone!

And from that day on, no one fought over words anymore!

Adverb described all the verbs and Adjective described all the nouns!
