The Hiding Place

It was a warm and sunny spring afternoon when Sam, Bethany, Jill, and Billy decided to play hide and go seek in Sam’s grandparent’s backyard of their farm. Billy wanted to be “It” first. Sam, Jill, and Billy covered their eyes with their hands and began counting to 25.

While they were counting, Billy was trying to decide where he was going to hide. First, he ran over by the row of evergreen trees, but soon decided that his friends would probably find him too easily there. Next, he ran over by Sam’s grandma’s garden. However, when his feet starting sinking into the ground he knew he had to find another place to hide. He could hear his friends counting, “17, 18, 19...” and knew he had to hurry up and pick a spot to hide!

Billy quickly and quietly ran over by the garden shed. He hid on the backside of the shed between the shed and rose bushes. He soon heard them shout, “Ready or not, here we come!”

Billy very carefully peeked through the rose bushes to see where they were looking. He saw them over by the evergreens. “Whew!” he thought, “I’m glad I didn’t hide in there! I knew they would look there first!”

However, he knew he had to get as low to the ground as he could. He crept down as low as he could when suddenly he sat on something sharp. “Ouch!” he screeched! Sam, Jill, and Bethany all stopped walking and began asking each other where that voice came from. Bethany thought it was by the garden. Jill thought it was in the evergreen trees. Sam thought it was by the garden shed.

Billy hoped they didn’t hear him and knew he couldn’t make another peep! Jill, Sam, and Bethany decided that they would do ‘rock, paper, scissors’ to decide where they would look first. Bethany won, and they all jaunted over by the garden when suddenly they heard a sneeze! Sam pointed to the garden shed and said, “It came from over there!”

They all ran as fast as they could to the garden shed and found Billy hiding behind the shed by the rose bushes. They screamed, “Billy, we found you!!” They all were amazed at his great hiding place and decided that it would have taken them a lot longer to find him if he hadn’t made noises.
