When I Am Frustrated At School

a social story

Sometimes when I am at school I get frustrated.

It is okay to feel frustrated sometimes.

I might want to cry.

I might want to scream.

I might want to stomp my feet.

I might want to hit.

I will not cry when I am frustrated.

I will not scream when I am frustrated.

I will not stomp my feet when I get frustrated.

I will not hit when I am frustrated.

I do not want to get in trouble or have my friends be upset with me.

I will raise my hand, use my words and say

"I am frustrated!"

When I am frustrated I know there are things I can do to help me settle down and feel better.

I can take deep breaths.

I can have a drink of water.

I can ask to sit in a quiet spot for a few minutes.

I can ask to leave the room with an adult for a few minutes.

I know I will feel better in a few minutes.

When I am ready and my body is calm I can walk back and sit down in class with my friends and do my schoolwork.

I am not frustrated.

I am happy.
