The girl that cried lion!

By Katelyn Ali

There once was a girl named Brooke Lucas, her whole life has been very boring. She wants to go on an adventure in the jungle. Brooke’s parents do not like this idea because they think it is too dangerous. Brooke’s brother Scott Lucas agrees with his parents because he doesn’t want his little sister to get hurt. During the summer Brooke’s parents finally listen to her and they are going to Africa to see all different types of animals. Brooke is so excited but Scott isn’t so excited. Scott doesn’t like animals and does not want to go to Africa. Scott keeps trying to get out of going but his parents are forcing him to go.

On July 2nd the Lucas’s left for Africa, when they arrive they are greeted by a friendly elephant and giraffe! Brooke was the first to get off of the plane and she was so excited to see a lot of animals as she walked through the airport with her family. Scott on the other hand hated Africa and he was ready to go home even though they just got there. The next day the Lucas’s went on a safari through the jungle. Brooke was determined to find a lion, lions are her favorite animal. While they are on the safari Brooke tells everyone that she saw a lion and it was chasing after the car that they were in. Everyone in the car became frightened and when they looked back they saw no lion! I remember a man named Stephen told Brooke not to say there’s a lion when there really isn’t a lion. For the rest of the safari she didn’t say a word. Her mom was ashamed of her because she scared a lot of people on the safari.

Scott and his dad went on a different safari then Brooke and her mom. Scott was starting to like Africa until he and his dad got lost in the jungle. Scott was very angry with his dad and then they finally found the road and they walked all the way home. Meanwhile Brooke and her mom were having a really good time. Brooke’s mom told her that it was a great idea to go to Africa! Brooke forgot about her hunt for a lion. Suddenly while leaving the safari she started screaming, “Oh my gosh everyone look there’s a lion right over there!” When everyone looked I saw Brooke running down the street and into the jungle. All I could hear was her mother yelling for her saying, “Brooke get back her now!” When Brooke didn’t come back someone said, “Hey, that girl was right there really is lion over there and it is coming toward us.” Everyone ran back into the car and went down the road that Brooke went down.

A few minutes while we were driving we saw Scott and Mr. Lucas walking with Brooke. So we stopped the car and we picked them up. When they got in the car, everyone was relieved that they were all ok. Brooke apologized to everyone for scaring them about the lion that was never there. Everyone in the car forgave her except her mother. Her mom was still very disappointed in her but was happy that she told the truth. As the Lucas’s went back to their hotel resort Scott said, “Brooke, next time make sure that you tell the truth. If you see something do not joke around about it. Nobody believes a liar, even if they are telling the truth.”

For the rest of the trip Brooke learned to control her jokes and to be serious. When it was time to go home Brooke was very happy to go home. She was homesick and she missed her friends. Scott was also upset to leave Africa. He wanted to stay there and explore all the different cultures and animals.  Six months later Scott and Brooke went back to Africa after they finished school and they are both studying Zoology. They both hope to move to Africa and help out the animals as well as the people there!
