There are many types of germs and they are

everywhere.

One of the germ that makes us sick is called bacteria, pronounced (bac-teer-ee-uh)

Bacteria come in all different

shapes including balls, rods, and

spirals.

First, there is the rod-shaped bacteria, also known as Bacilli.

Next, there is spiral-shaped

bacteria also known as Spirilla.

Last, there is the

spherical shaped bacteria

also known as cocci.

These tiny invaders can make our bodies sick.

They give us fever, rashes, sniffles, coughs,

and make us vomit.

Germs are so small and sneaky that they

creep into our bodies without being noticed.

In fact, germs are so tiny that you need to

use a microscope to see them.

Most germs are spread through the air in

sneezes, coughs, or even breaths. Germs can

also spread in sweat, saliva, and blood.

Some pass from person to person by touching something that is contaminated, like shaking hands with someone who has a cold and then touching your own nose.

The best way to prevent yourself from

getting sick or spreading germs is to stay

away from things that cause them.

Always remember to wash your hands every

time you cough or sneeze, before you eat or

prepare foods, after you use the bathroom,

after you touch animals and pets, after you

play outside, and after you visit a sick relative

or friend.

Doing these things will help you to stay healthy.

It will also stop you from spreading germs to others.
