Tommy is an 8 year old boy who loves going to summer camp.  As soon as school is out, Tommy starts talking about summer camp.  He has gone for the last two years with his friend Ben.

Ben loves summer camp as much as Tommy.  He is also 8 and lives right next door to Tommy.

One summer afternoon the boys were sitting under a tree talking about what they like at camp.  They had to think for a while because there were so many great things.

Tommy finally told Ben that he liked the Bug Box the best.  There were so many different kinds that were interesting.  His favorite was the lady bug because it was cool.

Ben made a face because he did not like the Bug Box.  Ben explained to Tommy that he liked the art cart the best.  He liked making all the different crafts each day.

The boys sat discussing more activities for the rest of the afternoon.  Finally, it was time to go home for dinner.

At the dinner table Tommy's mom told him that they had good news.  Tommy's dad was being transferred to New Mexico.  They were moving next week.

Tommy was excited at first.  Then he realized that they were moving before summer camp.

The next day Tommy told Ben the news.  Both boys were sad because they were hoping to go to camp together again this year.

Tommy told Ben that he was not going to move.  Ben asked him where he was going to live and Tommy said that he would live with his grandma.

That night Tommy asked his mom if he could live with his grandma, but she said no.  She explained how they would miss him.  His mother asked why he did not want to move.  All he could get out of his mouth were the words summer camp.  Then he ran to his room.

Tommy's mom knocked on his bedroom door before she went in.  He was sitting on his bed.  His mom said that she knew he loved going to summer camp, however this year he could not go because they had to move.  Tommy was still very sad.

Ben met Tommy outside the next day.  He asked Tommy how he was doing.  Tommy was still sad.  Ben said he had a couple of ideas to help Tommy feel better about moving.

Ben said that Tommy could write or call whenever he could so the friends could talk.  Ben explained that he would take pictures at summer camp and tell all about the activities so Tommy would feel better, like he was there.

Also, Ben suggested that Tommy ask his mom if he could go to a summer camp in New Mexico.  Tommy thought this was a great idea.  He raced home to ask his mom.

Tommy asked his mom if he could go to a summer camp in New Mexico.  She told him that he was already signed up for one.  Tommy smiled and ran back outside to tell Ben.

Tommy told Ben the news.  He said that it would not be the same camp, but he could meet new friends.

Tommy and Ben decided that each night after camp they would call each other and tell about all the different things they did that day at camp.

Tommy realized at first it was hard to go to a different summer camp.  However, now that he went he loves it just as much as the last one.  He now understands that changing summer camps was hard, but it all worked out in the end.
