Turkey, Turkey Now and Then!

Written by: Jennifer Hernandez & Ricky Sosa

Items in the market were on sale.

Mommy went shopping with Jen and Dale.

They bought bread and vegetables too.

Jen went back to aisle three to get the tofu.

There was no market, but plenty of sails.

John and Sal were busy with their pails.

The food was scarce and yucky too.

All were tired and hungry, but still had work to do.

It was the eve before the big dinner.

Dad helped mom in the kitchen and she called him a winner!

She was amazed to have him there.

Every year she had cooked all alone which she thought was unfair.

They all wanted to arrive before winter.

Hope was fading fast, another week of mediocre dinners.

Just then, the New World was in sight.

The Pilgrims felt it would all be alright.

With land approaching near.

They all gathered trying not to show fear.

Mom and dad worked together well in the kitchen.

Oh no!

Dad messed up and called the turkey a chicken.

The pilgrams watched a group prepare

a delicious meal without a care.

Completely lost they made a judgement call.

They named the Natives, Indians because they could not think of nothing else, at all.

We sit down and each get a fancy plate.

Mom would like to start dinner before it gets late.

Dad carves the turkey and I say grace.

Then we begin to gobble down and stuff our face.

Despite the mistake, the Natives welcomed their new friends.

They all hoped the meal would never end.

Together they all sat feeling fine.

East and West dining united for the first time.

Then and Now,

One thing's the same.

Come Thanksgiving Day,

Sharing is the name of the game.
