Winter Fun!

Catching snowflakes on your tongue is fun!

  • Did you know that no two snowflakes are exactly alike?
  • Did you know that snowflakes begin their formation process by a small speck of dust or dirt that is carried up into the atmosphere by the wind?  Ice then collects around the little speck and a snow crystal begins to form.  These crystal begin to combine and make the snowflakes we all love to catch on our tongues and face!

Snowflakes have 6 sides.  Most people think snowflakes are just white, but they are gray too!

What other things outside in the winter that are white, might also be gray?

The biggest snowflake ever to fall in the United States came from the state, Montana.  It was 15 inches in diameter.  Wow!

Where is Montana?

How big do you think that snowflake was?

Can you show me?

We have learned many fun facts about snowflakes.  Can you tell me in your own words about some snowflake facts?
