One sunny day, Betty Bunny was walking to her garden.  While out, she noticed that some of the flowers in the garden had been nibbled on.

"Oh no! Those little beetles got into my garden again! I'm going to have to put a fence around my garden!"

Betty Bunny decided she needed to visit Mr. Bear, the carpenter

"Mr. Bear, " she said "I need help with fencing in my garden."

"What kind of help?" asked Mr. Bear.

"I need to know how much fence to order, so that I do not spend too much money, or not have enough to fence around the whole garden."

"That's simple, Betty Bunny!" Mr. Bear exclaimed.  "Do you know how to find the perimeter of your garden?"

"The perima-WHAT?"

"The perimeter! It's the distance around the edge of your garden". explained Mr. Bear.

"No, I do not." replied Betty.  "Can you teach me?"

"Of course!" said Mr. Bear.  So they went back to Betty's garden to learn about perimeter.

"First, you measure one side of the garden" explained Mr. Bear.

"Then, you measure a different side of the garden."

"Since your garden is a rectangle, the north side is the same measure as the south side, and the east side is the same measure as the west side!"

"So, what you do now is add the measurements of all the sides to get your perimeter."

"There!" Mr. Bear exclaimed.  The perimeter of your garden is 6 feet because 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 6

"Thank you, Mr. Bear! Now I know how to find the perimeter of a rectangle" Betty said.

The next day, Mr. Bear came over and installed  Betty Bunny's fence.

And from that day on, Betty Bunny's garden was safe
