The World of Triangles

Written and illustrated by Ruha Rahman

Hi!, My name is Sam.  I invite you to follow me into the world of triangles.  Here, you will learn about distinct triangles and how they differ from one another.  Let's go!!

This is an Mister Equilateral.  He is a very ncie and fair man.  He has three congruent sides on his body.  This means each side of his body is equal to the other.

Mister Equilateral tells us that to find perimeter of his body, we must all up all the sides.  And to find the area, he illustrates the formula.

Hello there,

I'm Miss Isoceles.  I live on Elm Street with all of the other Isoceles ladies and gents, who are all good friends of mine.

Unlike Mister Equilateral, I only has two conrugent sides.

I have posted how to find the perimeter and area of my body.

Hi!,I am Mrs. Scalene.  I am not a friend of Mister Equilateral or Miss Isoceles.  Actually, I do not get along with those folks because they don't really like me.  I think it's because I am very different from them.

Let me tell you a little about myself.  I am different from all other species of triangles you have learned about.

Why?

Well, all of the sides of my body are different from one another.  I look weird when I walk and sometimes I don't feel stable because I am wobbling most of the time.

So, now you know!!

Now you know  the three main types of triangles:  Equilateral, Isoceles, and Scalene.  You also learned how each is different from one another.  It's always important to think about the properties of these triangles when working with them in the real world.

But there's only ONE problem. . .

These triangles don't get along as much as you do with your classmates.

How can we help them get along with one another? . .

We'll resolve that next time,

but now let's head back to the real world
