TEMPERANCE MOVEMENT

Death of a Temperance Man

In the 1820s, many people believed that drinking alcohol caused poor health, crime, domestic violence, and other social problems.

As a result of these beliefs, some people wanted to limit the sale of alcohol; while others wanted to outlaw the sale and making of alcohol completely.
