The LINKS Strategy

Created by Mrs. Hagen

LINKS is a note-taking strategy.

Listen

Identify

Note

Keyword, and

Stack information into outline format

You listen to the teacher's verbal cues.

When you identify a cue, make a circle on the left margin of your paper.

Note key words when following each cue.

1.  Write words, not complete sentences.

2.  Abbreviate words.

3.  Do not use any punctuation.

4.  Draw a line through an error rather than erase.

5.  Allow extra space to add more information.

6.  Use synonyms.  (Suritsky & Hughes, 1996, pp. 305-306)

You use two-columns for this note-taking strategy.  Main ideas go in the left column and supporting details go in the right column.
