Long ago in Troopien, people mistreated animals and didn’t respect them. All they ate were animals. They didn’t even know that there were edible plants. Soon every single animal that lived on the island was going extinct. The animals had a meeting; they knew they had to do something fast. They chose their beloved manatee to talk to the people. The manatee was the wisest creature on the island.

“People of the island,” the manatee said, “we have let this go for too long. We must stop you from murdering us. We will give you food but first you must all promise that you will never ever kill another living creature.  For all the generations that come and all the people who live on this island may not kill us if you do you will starve, because you will have no food plus meat is terrible for humans.”

“No we don’t want to stop.” The people refused. Time went on and animals became fewer and fewer. The people were becoming hungrier and hungrier. Finally they couldn’t bear it any longer. They were all starving and many people died. They came to the animals and begged for help.

The animals were very mad at the people and didn’t want to help them, but the wise manatee knew that they had to save the people from extinction. The first thing she had to do was to try to convince the non-humans.

The manatee proclaimed, “Non-humans we must help the humans because if they become extinct then the decomposers will have no food and we are better than them and have to do what is right.” The animals knew that she was right so they agreed to help the people.

“You must save us,” the people begged,” we are starving.”

“We will tell you what you can eat but first promise that you will never kill another living thing again”

All the people promised that they would never kill another living creature again and the animals taught them about all of the edible plants that grew on the island. The people learned to live on eating plants such as coconuts, vanilla, and so on. Today the people of Troopien respect all animals and look up to them.
