Helping Sue Solve Equations

Sue is trying hard to do her homework, so she calls her best friend Kitty for help.  Sue is having a hard time solving equations. She just can't remember the steps. So, Kitty and Sue sit down to start working!

So, her teacher gave her a bunch of single step equations.  Sue was able to do those problems with no issues.  However, her teacher then threw in this wonderful two-step equation, which she is totally stumped.

Ok, Sue what is the goal of solving equations?

Ask the coach to tell you what is the first step.

So Sue, is x by itself?  What operation is being done to x?  What is the opposite operation?

Sue, why did we divide by 4?

SO x EQUALS 4!  YAYYYY!

To check plug it back into the equation and solve.
