The Line Keeps Growing

Author: Shawn Johnston

It was the first day of summer vacation and my mom was taking me to the swimming pool.

We got there 10 minutes early so we had to wait in line to get in.

I was bored so I started counting the people in line. I was the tenth person in line, and 10 more just got in line. Do you know how many people are in line now?

10+10=

That's right! 20 people in line now, but here comes 15 more people. How many do we have now?

20+15=

You are right again! There are now 35 people in line, BUT here come a big group of 25 more people. How many do we have in line now?

35+25=

If you guessed 60 you are correct. There are now 60 people in line, BUT another group of 15 just got in line. How many people do we have now?

60+15=

Yes! There are now 75 people in line at the pool. Everyone wanted to come to the pool today. I did not think anyone else was going to come, BUT 5 more people just got in line.

75+5=

There are now 80 people in line, BUT wait here comes 20 more people. How many people do we have in line?

80+20=

Good Job! There are now 100 people in line, BUT the pool is opening now and I am going to go swim.
